We all dream, it’s an inherent part of being human. But did you know that, in addition to having dreams, each of us also carries a Monster?
Yes, each of us unknowingly carries a little Monster inside us—a misunderstood fragment of ourselves, born from our fears, desires, hidden emotions and the struggles we face. It’s our dreams and nightmares that feed the little monster inside of us and, what makes the act of dreaming possible is a mysterious place called Onirium, also known as the world of dreams.
Onirium is a living organism that fuels the act of dreaming for every human, sending fragments known as Dreamfall Stars every time we dream. While most of us remain unaware of Onirium’s existence, a rare few are drawn into this collective dreamscape by chance. When this happens, we are stripped of our memories and individuality, becoming Travelers of Onirium, carrying only a persistent feeling of homesickness.
Furthermore, a second effect occurs with each Traveller: a moment when your inner monster manifests before you, taking the form of a creature unique to each individual, capable of directly interacting with the world of Onirium.
Onirium is also home to three unique races, each deeply intertwined with the world’s ecosystem:
Quiropters: Alchemist-scientists with bat-like wings, the Quiropters inhabit the Glass Galleries, where they oversee the transformation of dream essence into the luminous Night Water. Their creativity spans both science and art, adding a touch of whimsy to their meticulous work.
Cotinellis: Peaceful farmers resembling ladybugs, the Cotinellis tend to the Harvest Valley, where they gather to celebrate their harvests and perform theater plays, a tradition of their species.
Each race plays a vital role in sustaining Onirium, maintaining its balance and the eternal cycle of dream production.
Onirium was born from the love of the God of Dreams and the God of Nightmares, two primordial deities who shaped its essence. Their union created the cycles of creation and destruction, where dreams and nightmares fuel Onirium’s existence.
However, this harmony was shattered by the arrival of the God of Void, a mysterious being that seeks to unravel the delicate balance of this world.
Its sinister presence attracted and gave rise to numerous corrupt entities in Onirium, among them a trio of malevolent rulers known as the Executioner of Anxiety, the Herald of Fear, and the Lord of Loneliness, each embodying the darkest aspects of human emotions, relentlessly spreading their influence across the realm.
Under the dominion of the God of Void, the dreamworld has become hostile to Travellers, a harsh reality revealed upon your arrival. The Void lingers like an empty shadow, threatening to consume all dreams and plunge the world into eternal oblivion.
Together with your Monster companion, you must reclaim your Soul Gifts to break the Void’s curse, confront your deepest emotions—fear, anxiety, and loneliness—and navigate the challenges of a fractured dreamworld to find your way home.
Onirium is more than just a mysterious place—it’s a reflection of humanity’s shared subconscious, a realm where imagination, fear, and wonder collide. As you journey through its biomes and connect with your Monster, you may find that Onirium is not merely a dreamscape but a mirror into the deepest parts of ourselves.
